Vor 60 Jahren entdeckte man während der Bauarbeiten des Kurobe-Damms ein schwarzes Relikt unerklärlichen Ursprungs. Die UN nahm sich seiner Erforschung an, weshalb an Ort und Stelle eine eigene Forschungseinrichtung entstand. Als Yukina, die Tochter der aktuellen Leiterin dieses Forschungszentrums eines Tages mit dem Relikt in Berührung kommt, aktiviert sie versehentlich einen Mechanismus, der den darin in Kälteschlaf überdauernden jungen Samurai Kennosuke freigibt. Diese Entdeckung stellt sich als Glücksfall heraus, denn Kennosuke erweist sich beim parallel einsetzenden Angriff von außerirdischen Invasoren als einzige effektive Waffen gegen diese. Nur er und die mit dem Relikt nun biometrisch synchronisierte Yukina können einen schwarzen Mecha steuern, der es als einziger mit jenen der Invasoren aufnehmen kann.
