Description

Key the Metal Idol” is about the quiet and shy Tokiko Mima, mostly called “Key”. Key has lived in Mamio Valley with her grandfather, Murao Mima, always believing that she was a human-looking robot and that her grandfather gave her a body every year so she could grow effectively. But, one day, Murao dies under mysterious circumstances. Key is left with only a tape recording that says she should collect 30,000 friends to become a human. But how is Key supposed to achieve such an immense amount in the time she has left? After all, it is to be feared that Key’s battery will not last forever.

Key travels to Tokyo, hoping to find enough friends there. Her path first leads her into the arms of Sen’ichi Tamari, who not only has videos with dubious reputations produced to his mark but also arranges for potential idols. Luckily for Key, she meets Sakura, her friend from middle school who helps her out and even lets Key stay with her.

When Key learns about the famous idol Miho through Sakura’s friends and eventually sees one of her performances, she wants to become an idol herself in order to make the required number of friends as quickly as possible. But the road will be rocky because the company Ajo Heavy Industries, which also owns Miho’s agency, seems to be guarding a dark secret and has long had its eye on Key.
