Description

After successfully bombing Pearl Harbor, Momotaro over sees construction of a Japanese base with the help of his animal fleet along with some new recruits & volunteers. Their new mission is to attack the American troops occupying the island of Sulawesi.

Umi no Shinpei war der erste „echte“ animierte japanische Spielfilm mit einer Länge von über 60 Minuten. Im Film selbst wird der bekannte Fallschirm-Angriff auf Sulawesi von Seiten der Japaner beschrieben.

Anmerkung:
Bis in den 1980ern durch Zufall die Filmnegative in einem Lager der Shouchiku gefunden wurden, wurde vermutet, dass alle Kopien des Films nach dem Krieg von den Besatzern beschlagnahmt und vernichtet wurden. Für die Filmfestspiele in Cannes 2016 wurde der Film aufwändig restauriert.
