Description
“Uproar in Heaven” recounts an episode of “Journey to the West”, one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels. The Monkey King, Sun Wukong, wants a weapon worthy of his skills and power. In the palace of the Dragon King of the Eastern Seas, he finds a magic staff that meets his requirements and takes it. The Dragon King, however, is not pleased by the theft of his most prized possession and lodges a complaint about it to the Jade Emperor.
The Jade Emperor tries to subdue Sun Wukong by appointing him “Protector of the Horses”. However, Sun Wukong soon realizes that he is nothing more than a stable boy and that this is one of the lowest positions in the Celestial Kingdom. Henceforth, he calls himself the “Great Sage, Equal of Heaven” in revenge, makes fun of the Chinese deities wherever he can, and eventually even takes on the entire celestial army …
Annotation:
The film saw a major remaster for its 2012 Blu-ray release, for which it was also shortened by about twenty minutes.
