Die Geschichte basiert auf einem Manga von Seiichi Hayashi und dreht sich um den Zerfall der Liebesbeziehung der beiden Mangazeichner Ichiro und Sachiko. Ichiro hat eine Ausbildung zum Maler abgeschlossen, will jetzt aber lieber Mangas zeichen. Die nur halbtags arbeitende Sachiko flüchtet vor einer von ihrem Vater arrangierten Ehe und versucht zusammen mit Ichiro irgendwie über die Runden zu kommen. Beide haben ein starkes Alkoholproblem und leben in ständiger Angst von ihren Betrieben entlassen zu werden.
