Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (2008)

The year is 2029, and computers and humans are now physically intertwined. Implants, artificial limbs and even entire cyborg bodies are common. However, through networking, crime has also reached a new dimension. Section 9 was created to fight this new type of crime. The head of the department is the old Nakamura, who has found a leader of the police force in Motoko Kusanagi who is as brave as she is intelligent.

So far, the missions of Section 9 have been successful, but for some time, an assassin called the “Puppetmaster” has been making cyberspace unsafe. He logs into the brains of his victims, manipulates them irreparably, and thus forces them to commit crimes for him. Just as ruthless as his modus operandi, Section 9, in particular Major Kusanagi, pursues his trial. But she has no idea that the encounter with the “Puppetmaster” will change her life forever. And not only because the trial leads into the highest government and intelligence circles.

Wir schreiben das Jahr 2029. Computer und Menschen sind inzwischen auch physisch miteinander verwoben. Implantate, künstliche Gliedmaßen und sogar ganze Cyborg-Körper sind ganz normal. Doch durch die Vernetzung erreichte auch die Kriminalität eine neue Dimension. Eigens dafür wurde Sektion 9 ins Lebens gerufen, um diese neue Art von Verbrechen zu bekämpfen. Abteilungsleiter ist »der Alte« Nakamura, der in Major Kusanagi eine ebenso tapfere wie intelligente Anführerin der Polizeitruppe gefunden hat.

Bisher waren die Einsätze von Sektion 9 immer von Erfolg gekrönt, doch seit einiger Zeit macht ein Attentäter, genannt der »Puppetmaster«, den Cyberspace unsicher. Er loggt sich in die Gehirne seiner Opfer ein, manipuliert sie irreparabel und zwingt sie somit, für ihn Verbrechen zu begehen. Genauso rücksichtslos wie seine Vorgehensweise verfolgt Sektion 9, insbesondere Major Kusanagi, seine Spur. Doch sie ahnt nicht, dass die Begegnung mit dem »Puppetmaster« ihr Leben für immer verändern wird. Und das nicht nur, weil die Spur in höchste Regierungs- und Geheimdienstkreise führt.
