Koushirou ist Zoros früherer Meister, der ihm die Schwertkampfkunst beigebracht hat, und der Vater von Zoros Kindheitsfreundin Kuina. Er ist bei allen seinen Schülern beliebt, da er ein sehr ruhiger Mensch und Lehrer ist, der aber auch genau weiß, wie er seine Schüler zu unterrichten hat. Nach Kuinas Tod schenkte er Zoro das »Wado-Ichi-Monji«, das dieser nun wie sie Augapfel hütet. Für Koushirou ist die höchste Kunst der Schwertführung nicht nur ein Werkzeug der Zerstörung, sondern auch eine die bewahrt.
