Neben ihren eineiigen Zwillingsschwestern Nagi, Mayo und Mimi nimmt Ai Shindou am Kantou-Turnier teil und vertritt ihre Schule, die Saitama Tamasuka Academy. Sie ist eine exzellente Schmetterlings-Schwimmerin und gehört demnach auch zur Lagenstaffel, die komplett aus dem Schwestern-Gespann besteht. Im Vergleich zu ihren beiden Schwestern Mayo und Mimi weist sie genau die gegenteiligen Charakterzüge auf, strotzt nur so vor Selbstbewusstsein und Energie und besitzt darüber hinaus auch noch ein ziemlich lockeres, kesses und teilweise sogar unanständiges Mundwerk. Ihr gelbe Brille stellt somit nur noch das Tüpfelchen auf dem I dar.
