Proxy One ist für die sich entfaltenden Ereignisse der gesamten Geschichte um Vincent und Re-l verantwortlich - er erwählt Ergo Proxy um sich an ihrem Erschaffer, dem »Schöpfer«, zu rächen. Als dieser sich aber von dem Plan abwendet und flieht, erschafft er die Persönlichkeit des Vincent Law und benutzt Re-l Mayer um ihn zu sich zu holen.
Am Ende erfährt Ergo Proxy/Vincent dann die gesamte Wahrheit und muss nun wählen: entscheidet er sich für die Rettung der geliebten Menschen, oder wählt er den Weg, der für ihn durch Proxy One schon lange feststand - den der Vergeltung?
