Als Kind war Kei Kurono ein furchtloser Junge, der immer auf der Suche nach neuen Herausforderungen war. Deshalb legte er sich auch immer mit Stärkeren an, oder wagte lebensgefährliche Manöver. Wegen seines Mutes wurde er von seinen Mitschülern bewundert und vor allem Masaru Kato sah in ihm sein Vorbild. Er setzte sich außerdem für schwächere Leute ein und verteidigte so seine Mitschülerin vor einem Schläger.
