Nero ist ein Produkt von Yumikos unterbewusst aktivierten, magischen Fähigkeiten. Der kleine Hundewelpe ist von Beginn an stark auf Touka fixiert. Er will nur mit seinem selbst gewählten Herrchen spielen und lässt sich auch nur von diesem füttern. Mit der Zeit entwickelt sich zwischen den beiden eine sehr innige Beziehung, wie sie jeder Besitzer eines Haustieres kennt. Die Begegnung mit Nero lässt Touka das erste Mal Erfahrungen mit einer durch und durch ehrlichen Freundschaft machen. Sein Tod markiert Toukas ersten Kontakt mit tief empfundener Trauer und dem Gefühl der Hilflosigkeit.
