Yuuji Date ist Eijis zweiter Sohn, der in Hajime no Ippo noch ein Kleinkind war und nicht sprechen konnte. Erst in der Fortsetzung spielte er eine bedeutendere Rolle. Selbstverständlich schenkt Yuuji seinem Vater vollstes Vertrauen und glaubt fest daran, dass dieser bei jedem Kampf erfolgreich aus dem Boxring steigen wird. Darüber hinaus scheint Yuuji noch sehr an seiner Mutter zu hängen und sucht andauernd die Nähe zu ihr. Zu seinem Vater und dem Boxsport schaut Yuuji aber immerzu respektvoll auf.
