Als Carnap merkt, dass Reinhard von Lohengramm viel zu mächtig ist, um sich ihm in den Weg stellen zu können und er auch keine Hilfe mehr von Phezzan erwarten kann, bangt er um die weitere Existenz der Goldenbaum-Dynastie. Er gehört nämlich zu den Adligen, die sich anfangs gegen Reinhard stellten. Aber eigentlich interessiert ihn sein eigenes Leben viel mehr, ob die Goldenbaum-Dynastie endet, ist für ihn daher nur zweitrangig.
