Weil sein Vater ihm sein schandhaftes Spiel in der Minor League nicht zeigen wollte, konnte er seinen Vater schon länger nicht mehr sehen. Selbst an seinen Geburtstagen kam Sanders nicht vorbei, aber auch wenn Matthew durchaus sauer sein könnte, er ist es nicht. Viel eher ist er sehr stolz auf seinen Vater, der seiner Leidenschaft des Baseballs mit ganzem Herzen folgt. Als er dann ein Spiel seines Vaters sieht, findet er ihn sogar noch cooler als zuvor, sein Wunsch, dass Sanders mit dem Baseball niemals aufhört, bestärkt sich dadurch nur, auch wenn er weiß, dass er seinen Vater so recht selten zu Gesicht bekommen wird, nur wenn er ihn auf dem Feld spielen sieht, kann er wirklich stolz auf ihn sein.
