Garan ist der Großvater von Senshirou und leitet das Dojo, in dem die Zweilt-Wächter ausgebildet werden. Er bringt Kuroto eines Tages ebenfalls ins Dojo und sorgt dafür, dass dieser sich dort einlebt. Er empfindet für Kuroto dieselben Gefühle wie für Senshirou und wünscht sich nichts sehnlicher als dass dieser ihn einmal »Opa« nennt. Von Garan hat Kuroto auch das Shogi-Spiel gelernt und konnte diesen niemals besiegen. Garan sorgte mit seiner freundlichen Art immer für Senshirou und Kuroto und war sehr stolz auf die beiden. Doch als Cadenza eines Nachts den Dojo angriff, wurde Garan im Versuch Kuroto und Senshirou zu beschützen, von diesem getötet.

Garan schien ebenfalls ein Nekromant zu sein, allerdings wurde dies nie bestätigt, da man ihn nie kämpfen gesehen hat. Doch Garan war in der Lage, Bannkreise zu erschaffen um so Kuroto und Senshirou vor Cadenza zu schützen.
