Ranshe Mei ist die Mutter von Ranka Lee. Sie war seinerzeit Mitglied eines Forschungsteams der 117. Raumflotte. Dieses Team wurde von Grace O’Connor, ihr und Dr. Mao Nome angeführt. Ranshe Mei widersetzte sich dem Plan von Grace, die Vajra für ein Raumverzerrungs-Kommunikationsnetzwerk zu opfern. Sie war bereits mit dem »V-Type«-Virus infiziert, als sie Ranka zur Welt brachte, wodurch diese gegen den tödlichen Verlauf der Erkrankung immunisiert wurde.

Hintergrundinformation:
Die Erwähnung von Mao Nome stellt eine Verbindung zum Macross-Prequel Macross Zero her: dort ist diese einer der Hauptcharaktere (natürlich damals noch wesentlich jünger).
