Das Bakterium Lactococcus lactis, im Anime kurz Lactis genannt, wird bei der Sake-Produktion eingesetzt. Die im Anime zu sehende Abkürzung S.lactis leitet sich von dem früheren Namen Streptococcus lactis für diese Art ab. Bekannter sind diese Mikroorganismen für ihren Einsatz bei der Herstellung von verschiedenen Käsesorten, es gibt aber auch Anwendungen im Bereich alkoholischer Getränke oder eingelegtem Gemüse.

Lactis tritt meist als quirliger Haufen auf, die bereits aktiv werden, wenn es für andere Mikroben wie Oryzae noch zu kalt ist um aktiv zu werden.
