Als Ichigo Amano nach einem Treppensturz zur Untersuchung ins Kashino-Krankenhaus gebracht wird, das von Makotos Familie geführt, fällt ihr bei der sie behandelnden Ärztin sofort die Ähnlichkeit zu ihrem Mitschüler auf, so dass sie ins Blaue rät, ob sie vielleicht seine Mutter sei. Verhielt sie sich zuvor noch sehr verständnisvoll und freundlich, reagiert sie auf ihren Sohn angesprochen überraschend unwirsch. Seine Ambitionen, Patissier zu werden, empfindet sie als Vergeudung und will ihn gemäß der Familientradition lieber zu einem Arzt ausbilden lassen.
