Yukino Kirihara ist Schülerin der Sakuratani High School, einer Schule für reiche Mädchen. Wirklich beliebt ist unter ihren Mitschülerinnen jedoch nicht, im Gegenteil, viele empfinden sie, aufgrund ihres Verhaltens, für eigenartig. Yukino verbringt nämlich die meiste Zeit in der Schule damit, teilnahmslos aus dem Fenster zu blicken, als hätte sie sich für ihr Umfeld abgeschaltet und sich in irgendwelche Gedanken vertieft. So fällt es für andere verständlicherweise schwer, eine Verbindung zu ihr aufzubauen. Für die schüchterne Yukino ist das aber das geringste Übel, denn Probleme innerhalb der Familie quälen das Mädchen und verursachen, dass sie an nichts anderes mehr denken kann. Da ihr Lehrer Kannari dies erkannt hat, bot er ihr Sprechstunden bei sich an, in denen Yukino ihm ihre Sorgen mitteilen und somit etwas von der Last, die sie auf ihren Schultern trägt, abbauen kann. Yukino nahm das Angebot an und so öffnete sie sich mit der Zeit ihrem Lehrer, wodurch sich auch ihre Beziehung zueinander veränderte - zumindest für Yukino, die ihm immer mehr vertraut und sich in seiner Gegenwart geborgen fühlt. Es geht sogar soweit, dass sie ihren Lehrer als onii-chan betrachtet. Dass dieser aber was ganz anderes mit ihr im Schilde führt, bemerkt sie überhaupt nicht.
