Aus unbekannten Gründen greift diese nicht näher spezifizierte Lebensform, deren Herkunft unbekannt ist, Tokyo an. Es nimmt gigantische Ausmaße an, kann fliegen und ähnelt in seinem Aussehen einem irdischen Tintenfisch. Somit besitzt es auch Fangarme, und ebenso große Tentakel, die wie eine Ranke aus ihren Hauptstamm viele kleinere sprießen lassen kann, um damit ihre Feinde anzugreifen. Um Tokyo zu schützen, entscheidet sich Hiroaki Mishima, seines Zeichens Generaldirektor der geheimen Militär-Behörde Altamira dafür, seine künstlich erschaffenen Soldaten zum allerersten Mal einzusetzen.
