Usui Uonuma ist ein Mitglied der »Zehn Schwerter«, einer Truppe unter der Führung von Makoto Shishio, und gilt als der Mächtigste unter ihnen.

In der Bakumatsu-Zeit diente er dem Shogunat, doch im Kampf gegen Shishio verlor er sein Augenlicht. Seither schloss er sich Shishio an und verfeinerte alle anderen seiner Sinne.
