Mit seiner Assistentin Arakawa forscht Professor Kakuzawa an einer Heilungsmethode für das Vektor-Virus, welches die Mutation auslöst, die einen Diclonius entstehen lässt. Außerdem unterrichtet er noch als Dozent an der Universität - er gilt dort als ziemlich strenger Lehrer.
Man sagt ihm außerdem nach, dass er den jungen Studentinnen nicht abgeneigt sei und man sich dahingehend vor ihm in acht nehmen müsse.

Es zeigt sich später, dass er ein Kommilitone von Dr. Kurama war und diesen zum Einstieg in das Diclonius-Forschungsprojekt überredete. Er hat außerdem nicht vor, ein Gegenmittel für das Virus zu entwickeln, sondern es in Reinstform zu isolieren. In dieser Hinsicht stimmt er mit seinem Vater überein, verfolgt aber abgesehen davon eine eigene Agenda.
