Kaa ist eine relativ alte, gutmütige Python und ein guter Freund von Mogli, Balou und Baghira.
Er war der erste, der das Menschenkind, Mogli, im Dschungel entdeckte und ihn dann der Verantwortung Balous übergab.

Kaa legt viel Wert auf die Dschungelgesetze und versucht diese auch an Mogli weiterzugeben. Wenn seine Freunde in Gefahr geraten, zögert er nicht, ihnen zur Hilfe zu kommen.
Was man bei ihm weniger erwarten würde ist, dass er sehr eitel ist. Wenn er sich wieder einmal neu gehäutet hat, erwartet er von allen bewundernde Worte und ist sofort beleidigt, wenn diese ausbleiben. Zudem ist er sehr rechthaberisch und gesteht sich keine Fehler ein.
