Wenn Black Jacks Skalpelle durch die ständige Nutzung abstumpfen, dann sucht er Hyoujisai auf, der als erstklassiger Schmied bezeichnet wird, dessen Künste unerreicht sind. Die Klingen, die er anfertigt, sind so scharf, dass man mit ihnen mühelos alles durchtrennen kann, weswegen Black Jack das Schneiden auch so leicht fällt. Von Geld hält er nicht besonders viel, zwar lässt er sich für seine Dienste bezahlen, nutzt das erhaltene Geld dann aber nur, um sein Feuer anzuheizen.
