Ai hat es wahrlich nicht leicht. Weil viele glauben sie würde ein böser Geist mit übernatürlichen Fähigkeiten sein, der auf kurz oder lang Unglück über ihr Dorf bringen wird, meidet die Mehrheit der Dorfbewohner sie und insbesondere die Kinder des Dorfes belästigen sie immer wieder von neuem. Einzig Sentarou steht ihr zur Seite und nicht nur aus dem Grund, weil er ihr Cousin ist. Durch ihn erfährt sie somit auch eine Form der Glückseligkeit und liebt die gemeinsame Zeit mit ihm über alles. Als sie vom Dorfvorsteher dazu auserkoren wird dem Berggott als Opfergabe dargeboten zu werden, ist sie froh darum, dass Sentarou ihr verspricht sie zu beschützen, worauf sie sich aber auch verlässt.
