Düstere Gerüchte ranken sich um das achte Korps, welches auch „Massaker-Einheit“ genannt wird und in dem Somia eines der neuesten Mitglieder ist und dennoch schon in den Posten des Kommandanten erhoben wurde. Tatsache ist, dass sie als Spezialeinheit, die auf Infiltrationen hinter den feindlichen Linien ausgelegt ist, auch vom König das Recht verliehen bekommen haben, Urteile zu fällen und zu vollstrecken, wenn es sich um Landesverrat handelt. Als Somia ihre Henkerspflicht an einigen Zivilisten ausüben will, die sie beschuldigt, Waffen für den Feind versteckt zu haben, schreitet jedoch Cecil ein und hält sie davon ab. Somia will unbedingt ein guter Kreuzritter werden und damit dem Beispiel ihres Vaters nachfolgen. Dieser ist leider bereits verstorben, doch dessen bester Freund, der General der Armee von Injiera, hat sich ihrer angenommen. Durch ihre Fixierung auf das, was sie glaubt, was von ihr erwartet wird, verliert sie manchmal den Blick darauf, was vor ihr liegt, nur eines weiß sie mit Sicherheit, nämlich dass sie ihren Vater Ehre machen will.
