Ein »Vizard« oder »Visored« entsteht, wenn ein Shinigami es schafft, seinen inneren Hollow zu besiegen und damit Zugriff auf dessen Kräfte erlangt, ohne von ihm vollständig übernommen oder kontrolliert zu werden (wobei das Risiko, dass dies doch passiert, nie ganz verschwindet). Shinigami, die diesen Status erlangt haben, können ihre Hollow-Maske herbeirufen, durch deren Aufsetzen sie ihre Kräfte aktivieren. Die Einsatzdauer ist begrenzt, aber bei jedem Vizard unterschiedlich.
