Hikaru Toma ist ein Schüler an der Izumo Akademie und lebt in einem Dojo, zusammen mit seiner Schwester Miyuki und deren Vater Rokusuke, welcher ihn im Schwertkampf unterrichtet. Aber so sehr er sich auch anstrengt, er konnte noch nie gegen ihn gewinnen, da Rokusuke ihm viele Jahre des Trainings voraus ist. Dieser meint auch, dass er weit über zweitausend Jahre trainieren müsse, um ihm irgendwann das Wasser reichen zu können.

Hikaru ist beim weiblichen Geschlecht ziemlich bekannt und auch begehrt, aber so oft man ihm auch eine Liebeserklärung gemacht hat, er ließ die Damen allesamt abblitzen. Als ihm dann eines Tages Amaterasu im Traum begegnet, überschlagen sich die Ereignisse praktisch und er gelangt nach Nenokuni, eine ganz andere Welt, in welcher es Götter gibt, sowie Geister und Dämonen. Mehr als verblüfft ist er natürlich, als Amaterasu ihn und seine Begleiter als Kyuuseishu (auf dt. „Retter“ oder auch „Messias“) bezeichnet.

Später kommt raus, dass er der Sohn von Izanami ist und folglich der Bruder von Susanoo.
