Männerliebe ist eine Form der Zuneigung, die in seinem Land auf Ablehnung stößt. Erst als ihm ein Buch eines japanischen Autors in die Finger gerät und er darin Äußerungen liest, die ihm wieder Mut machen, fasst er den Entschluss, zum Japaner zu werden. Die roten Haare und die blauen Augen sind zwar sehr offensichtliche Merkmale für eine ausländische Herkunft, was sein Interesse an diesem Land jedoch nicht verringert. Als er in Japan ist, muss er deswegen die Ortschaft bekunden, auch wenn er als Ausländer nicht gerne gesehen ist.
