Julun wurde von seinem Vater Darmoore als Friedensbotschafter des Planeten Katain zum Mars entsandt. Er wird jedoch für einen Spion gehalten und ins Gefängnis geworfen. Dort lernt er später Otho und das Erdenmädchen Ahara kennen, die zu ihm in die Zelle gesperrt werden.

Julun hält fest zu seinem Vater und glaubt an dessen Vision von einem Generationsraumschiff, welches das gesamte Volk des vom Untergang bedrohten Katain zum heiligen Stern Ko’om bringen soll. Den Plan General Jekalls, den Mars mit Gewalt zu erobern und die Katainer dorthin zu evakuieren, lehnt er, wie sein Vater, kategorisch ab.
