Motoko und ihre Stiefmutter Tomiko kamen nie gut miteinander aus. So ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass sie die Sorgen um ihren erkrankten Vater als bloße Schwarzseherei abtut und selber davon überzeugt ist, dass es ihm gut geht. Nachdem er dann doch letzten Endes an der unbekannten Krankheit stirbt, ist sie sich natürlich keiner Mitschuld bewusst und verbietet obendrein Toshio Ozaki bei ihm eine Obduktion durchzuführen. Selbst als er sich weigert ihrem Mann eine Sterbeurkunde auszustellen, weil Iwao bei ihm nicht Kunde war, versucht Tomiko ihn einfach mit Geld zu bestechen anstatt seinem Wunsch nachzukommen.
