Als Hyakkimaru bei einem Tempel vorbeikommt, entdeckt er dort Waisenkinder, die den Krieg überleben konnten. Unter ihnen befindet sich auch Mio, die von den anderen Kindern wie eine Mutter aufgenommen wird. Sie strahlt so viel Liebe und Zärtlichkeit aus, dass selbst Hyakkimaru sich in sie verliebt. Sie ist der erste Mensch, der ihm dieses Gefühl schenken konnte, weswegen er sich in diesem Tempel dann auch schnell sehr wohl fühlt.
