Taiyou ist eine Wettkampfnatur und immer gleich hochmotiviert, wenn es darum geht, sich mit anderen zu messen. Man könnte es auch übermotiviert nennen, weswegen es Chiyoko nicht gerade glücklich macht, dass sie für den bevorstehenden Schwimmwettbewerb an der Schule in sein Team eingeteilt wird, weil Taiyou natürlich schon extrem unter Feuer steht und unbedingt gewinnen will.
