Der Wechsel vom Federgewicht zum Bentamgewicht sorgte erst einmal dafür, dass sich keiner mit Rikiishi messen will. Auch wenn er durch die strenge Diät sehr viel Gewicht und damit auch Kondition verlor, traut sich keiner so recht, sich mit dem starken Gegner zu messen, dessen Fäuste schon in seiner Gewichtsklasse gefürchtete waren. Aus diesem Grund wird für sein Debütkampf auf einen Boxer aus dem Ausland gegriffen.

Pancho Leo ist seit 10 Jahren Boxer, ist zwar nicht mehr in seiner Blütezeit und auch durch viele Narben gezeichnet von seinen vielen Kämpfen, doch ist er nach wie vor ein ernst zunehmender Gegner. In seinem Land ist er auf dem 8. Rang seiner Gewichtsklasse.
