Axel Thurston ist der Großvater von Renton und der Vater von Adroc. Er lebt zusammen mit seinem Enkel in Bellforest. Als angesehener Mechaniker betreibt er dort eine Werkstatt.

Er ist eigentlich ein freundlicher alter Mann, aber auf das Wort »Sky-Surfen« reagiert er ziemlich empfindlich und ist am Anfang auch komplett gegen Rentons Idee auf die Gekkostate zu gehen. Vor Rentons Abreise gibt er ihm trotzdem noch einen wertvollen Gegenstand mit.
