Aufgrund ihrer Herkunft, sie ist zur Hälfte Deutsche, hat Shirley einen Großteil ihrer Kindheit im Ausland verbracht und ist erst vor einiger Zeit nach Japan zurückgekehrt. Wohl auch deshalb hatte sie lange Zeit ein wenig Probleme sich in ihrer neuen Umgebung zurecht zu finden. Allerdings hat sie in Minamo und Natsumi zwei sehr gute Freundinnen gefunden und ist ebenfalls Mitglied der Marschkapelle der Schule, wo sie als Trommlerin aktiv ist. Obgleich sie auf den ersten Blick etwas zurückhaltend und unsicher wirken kann, ist Shirley mitunter doch erstaunlich direkt und hat auch keine Probleme damit Yuuji für die eine oder andere private Fotositzung heranzuziehen. Übrigens trägt Shirley nicht nur die Schuluniform eines Jungen, sondern nutzt auch das männliche Personalpronomen Boku (僕), weshalb man ihr ein gewisses burschikoses Auftreten nicht absprechen kann.
