Sayaka Maizono ist der Kopf einer fünfköpfigen Oberschul-Idol-Gruppe. Als Spitzen-Idol der Schule wurde auch sie ausgewählt, an dem grausigen Spiel der Hope’s Peak Privatakademie teilzunehmen. Sie hat ein freundliches und einnehmendes Wesen und schafft es damit, ihren Mitgefangenen trotz ihrer verzwickten Situation ein Lächeln in die Gesichter zu zaubern. Doch als sie vor die ausweglose Situation „Töten oder getötet werden“ gestellt wird, zeigt sich schnell, dass sie mit diesem Druck nicht fertig wird und rasch in Panik verfällt. In diesen Situationen hilft ihr Naegi, den sie bereits von ihrer vorherigen Schule kennt. In seiner Nähe fühlt sie sich sicherer und sie scheint auch ein gewisses Interesse für ihn zu hegen und nimmt seine Bemühungen, sie beschützen zu wollen, erfreut wahr.
