Gateau ist einer der reichsten Männer der Welt. Er besitzt eine Firma, die nach ihm benannt ist und er kontrolliert den Schiffsverkehr in Nami no Kuni. Seine Hauptmotivation ist blanke Geldgier, dafür lässt er auch andere Leute töten, solange es nur Profit verspricht.
Das Monopol über den Schiffsverkehr hat er sich zum Beispiel nicht redlich verdient, sondern gewaltsam angeeignet.
