Sonomi ist die Mutter von Sakuras bester Freundin Tomoyo und die erste Cousine von Sakuras Mutter Nadeshiko. Sie ist Präsidentin ihres eigenen Spielzeugkonzerns und ist damit sehr wohlhabend. Sie besitzt zusammen mit ihrem Ehemann ein großes Grundstück mit Haus und Angestellten.

In ihrer Jugendzeit war sie sehr eng mit Sakuras Mutter befreundet. Sonomi hatte Nadeshiko geradezu vergöttert. Da Sakura ihrer Mutter sehr ähnlich sieht, ist sie von Sakura verzaubert.

Sie mag Sakuras Vater nicht, da sie ihm die Schuld an Nadeshikos frühem Tod gibt.
