Der Multimillionär Arthur Griffin sponsert die Stadt Tristia, damit deren Wirtschaft wieder angekurbelt wird. Um die Eröffnung des Industriegebietes gebührend zu feiern, hat er sich überlegt einen Golem-Wettkampf zu veranstalten. Allerdings verfolgt er mit dem ausgetragenen Turnier noch ein ganz anderes Ziel. Er ist nicht nur ein Mann, der viel Macht besitzt, sondern auch weiß, wie er diese einzusetzen hat, so wird er sehr ungehalten, wenn etwas nicht nach seinen Vorstellungen läuft - und insbesondere auf die Teilnahme Nanoka Flankas am Turnier besteht er beharrlich.
