In Tokio geboren, verlor er in der Grundschule seinen Vater. Dieser war auch Taucher und starb durch einen Unfall. Wegen Problemen mit seiner Mutter hat er die Schule geschmissen, ist von zu Hause ausgerissen und arbeitet seitdem im Tauchladen Higa auf Süd-Yonaguni als Tauchguide.
