Shiki, acht Jahre vor der Handlung in Tsukihime, ist ein Junge, der gerade einen schweren Unfall hinter sich hat und lange Zeit im Krankenhaus verbringen muss. Von dort schleicht er sich allerdings ab und an heraus und trifft so auf Aozaki Aoko, die seine Persönlichkeit stark prägt. Von ihr lernt er, wie wertvoll Leben ist und dass seine Augen, die den Tod eines jeden Dinges sehen können, ihn nicht dazu bringen dürfen, Leben nicht mehr zu schätzen. Zur Erleichterung seines Alltags schenkt sie ihm eine Brille, die seine Fähigkeit aufhebt.
