Hakkaku ist ein Wolfsdämon und einer der wenigen Überlebenden des von Naraku ausgelöschten Wolfrudels. Mit seinem Wolfsbruder Ginta folgt er Kouga treu überall hin, auch wenn er etwas feige, nicht besonders ausdauernd ist und von seinem Anführer immer meilenweit abgehängt wird.
Seit Kouga beschlossen hat, Kagome zu seiner Frau zu machen, sieht Hakkaku sie als seine „Chefin“ an, auf die er bedingungslos hört und die er ebenfalls zu beschützen versucht.
