Das Shinigami-Fräulein Mina kommt in die Menschenwelt, um dem Schüler Akitoshi Takami das Leben zu nehmen. Doch ist sie von seinem Gewimmer so gerührt, dass sie ihm eine Möglichkeit nennt, seinem Tod zu entgehen: Er muss bis zu einem vorgegebenen Datum ein Kind zeugen.

Shinigami nehmen dem Menschen jedoch nicht einfach so das Leben; wenn die vorbestimmte Zeit eines Menschen gekommen ist, erscheinen sie und zeigen ihm den Weg ins Totenreich. Mina geht noch zur Shinigami-Schule und ist noch sehr neu im Shinigami-Geschäft, weswegen sie nicht allzu viel Erfahrung hat. Allgemein kann man Mina getrost als sehr naiv, fast sogar als ziemliches Dummerchen abstempeln. Ihre vertrauensvolle, kindlich unschuldige Art verlockt den durchtriebenen Akitoshi allerlei Unfug mit ihr anzustellen, in dem er ihr das Blaue vom Himmel erzählt und sie nimmt jedes Wort von ihm für wahr.

So wird sie von ihrem Lehrmeister Shinigami Oyabin für ihre grobe Fahrlässigkeit, Akitoshi das Geheimnis verraten zu haben, wie er seinen Tod hinauszögern kann, mit Peitschenhieben und heißem Kerzenwachs bestraft und soll ihrem Meister beim nächsten Besuch in der Menschenwelt die neuesten Anime-DVDs mitbringen. Dass sie dabei die Gelegenheit nutzt sich neu einzukleiden, kommt ihr gerade recht.
