Danjuro ist der Anführer des Hanafubuki Ordens (Samurai-Orden) und erwartet die Ankunft seiner Tochter Kikunosuke. Er unterrichtete seine Tochter schon von klein auf, aber sah in ihr kein Mädchen, sondern einen Jungen. Kikunosuke gegenüber zeigte er kaum Zuneigung, stattdessen erzog er sie mit strenger Hand. Danjuro wollte, dass seine Tochter genauso wird wie er und schickte sie mit 13 Jahren fort um die Traditionen und Gebräuche der Familie zu erlernen.
