Tokuma Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd.

Tokuma Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd. is a Japanese publishing house which was founded in 1954.

It used to be the mother company of the film studio Daiei Motion Pictures which was bought in 1974 and of the music company Tokuma Japan Communications, which they bought in 1972. After the death of company founder Yasuyoshi Tokuma in 2000, Daiei Motion Pictures was sold to Kadokawa Shoten in 2002, whereas Tokuma Japan Communications went to Daiichikosho in 2001.

Studio Ghibli which they bought in 1999 and temporarily owned became independent once again in 2005.

Its headquarters is currently situated in the Minato ward of Toyko.

Sie waren die Mutterfirma des 1974 gekauften Filmstudios Daiei Motion Pictures und dem Musiklabel Tokuma Japan Communications, welches 1972 erworben wurde. Beide Tochterfirmen wurden nach dem Tod des Firmengründers Yasuyoshi Tokuma im Jahr 2000 verkauft. Daiei Motion Pictures ging im November 2002 an Kadokawa Shoten. Das Musiklabel ging 2001 an Daiichikosho.

Das im Jahr 1999 temporär gekaufte Studio Ghibli wurde im Jahr 2005 wieder unabhängig.

Der Hauptsitz ist zur Zeit im Bezirk Minato der Stadt Tokyo.
