Ernst Von Bauer, alias El Caballero Negro, dirige la 8ª división de tanques del Wehrmacht; su coraje, su inteligencia y su pericia en la batalla le han dado fama a ambos lados del frente. Corre el otoño de 1943, la 8ª división se encuentra en el sur de Rusia y la guerra se vuelve cada vez más complicada para el ejército alemán. Von Bauer ha perdido un ojo y muchos compañeros en combate. Solo quiere vengarse.
