La serie fue originariamente publicada en Japón por la editorial japonesa Leedsha entre los años 1995 y 1997, y narra los dramas humanos de aquellas personas que han sobrevivido a la caída de un meteorito en el Océano Pacífico tras el fallido intento para destruirlo mediante misiles. Las ciudades quedan desiertas por los grandes terremotos, los alimentos escasean y las enfermedades se extienden rápidamente. Será en ese escenario en el que Otomo, el protagonista principal de la serie, hará lo imposible por sobrevivir.
