Nadja ist eigentlich nur ein durchschnittliches dreizehnjähriges Waisenmädchen, das in einem Teil von Europa vor hundert Jahren lebt. Als sie jedoch ein Paket erhält, beginnt sie sich zu fragen ob ihre Muter vielleicht noch am Leben ist. Ihr Leben fängt an sich zu ändern, etwa als der fahrende Zirkus „Dandelion“ in die Stadt kommt und ihr das Angebot macht ihm beizutreten, oder durch den romantischen Francis, der Nadjas Leben rettet als zwei Männer ihre herzförmige Brosche stehlen wollen.
