Akira Nikaido ist ein typischer, fauler Highschool Schüler, der meint, er habe ein normales Leben. Bis ihm ein mysteriöser Mann namens Shirogane erscheint und ihm mitteilt, ihn nachts in der Schule nochmals zu treffen. Er ist skeptisch, doch geht er dennoch hin... und wird von Schattenmonstern angegriffen. Shirogane überzeugt ihn, dass die Balance zwischen der Menschenwelt und der Schattenwelt gestört wurde und dass Akira ein Shin - ein Wesen der Schattenwelt - werden muss, damit er helfen kann, die Balance wieder herzustellen.
